How to sell
IronPlanet enables sellers to turn their used equipment into cash faster — as
quick as four to six weeks — and do it more profitably, with lower commissions
and costs.
Our auction approach is a unique blend of high tech and high touch. We’re the
only auction company that offers sellers the worldwide reach, visibility, and
immediacy of a Web-based marketplace, combined with hands-on customer service
that enables sellers to get the most out of every auction. Sellers list their
equipment; we do the legwork and bring a global audience of bidders.
Consign
equipment Sellers consign equipment to an IronPlanet Featured Auction.
We have Territory Managers available to help with this process. Call
+353 (0)1 860 5000, Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. GMT
for assistance.
Prepare equipment If so desired, a seller can prepare his
equipment at his location and make it ready for inspection. Unlike traditional
auctions, with IronPlanet the equipment stays at the seller’s location until the
auction is completed and the equipment is sold. Read more about the
Inspection Process.
Inspection Most equipment sold
through IronPlanet has been through a rigorous inspection process, and an
inspection report is posted on our Web site. Each report includes details and
photos of the equipment — from general appearance through oil sample analysis.
We back up the reports with our IronClad Assurance®, which guarantees that the
equipment is as good as we say it is. That way, buyers can bid in confidence,
which typically results in higher sale prices. Read more about IronClad
Assurance.
Pre-auction marketing During auction preview and before auction
day, we market inspected equipment to thousands of prospective buyers worldwide.
We monitor bidder preview activity and continue with real-time marketing to get
the best auction results possible. Read more about
marketing your item.
Bidding
Our Featured Auctions take place almost every
week. Bidding can be handled real-time on auction day or via our automated
PriorityBid function.
Each item is on the block for a three or six minute time slot, with
multiple items often on the block simultaneously. The length of the auction can
extend if there is active bidding, but if there aren’t bids for the last two
minutes, then no more bids are accepted and the auction ends.
As each auction takes place, we constantly monitor the bidding, and we
contact interested bidders via e-mail and telesales in order to drive activity
and increase sale prices. Ultimately, the highest bidder wins the auction.
Receive payment Once the auction is over, IronPlanet handles all the
steps of the payment process. Buyers pay into a secure account that we manage.
Once payment into the secure account is confirmed, the seller releases the
equipment to the buyer’s transportation company. When delivery is accepted, the
seller receives payment. Read more about sale,
transfer, and payment.
